 The Coaching Experience

Every coaching experience is different, because every client wants to achieve something entirely unique to them. Some want to unlock their earning potential. Others want to reinvent themselves in a new career or relationship. Some want to express their creativity. Some want new ways to find harmony in their family. And some (actually all!) want their kids to thrive.

There are as many coaching approaches as there are coaching goals! And while coaching can "hold you accountable," it is driven by you. Coaching taps into the wisest part of you, the part that knows what you want, but may feel trapped or stuck. What follows is a small sample of coaching options.

Transitions Coaching for Midlife

Life is a series of transitions - infancy to adolescence, adolescence to adulthood. Transitions are a natural part of life, but not all transitions are easy. Losing a job, ending a relationship, experiencing financial downturns or professional disappointments, retiring - all of these transitions can leave us exhausted, uninspired and overwhelmed.

For many people, these transitions happen somewhere around midlife, a time, ironically, when we are supposed to be firing on all cylinders and functioning at our peak. But with so many questions swirling in our minds - "What's next?" "Am I living the life I am meant to live?" "Are my relationships as rewarding as they could be?" -    the engine that powers change and drive can come to a screeching halt.

For many, working with a life coach can be just the jumpstart it takes. Unlike traditional psychotherapy, life coaching is brief, focused and strategic.  As well, clients who choose life coaching are not passive recipients of treatment. Rather, they are involved every step of the way in a process that is active, directive and collaborative.

Working together, we will explore the obstacles that are getting in your way and design a road map to a more emotionally fulfilled, happier, healthier life.
We will utilize evidence-based screening tools that measure happiness, gratitude, love and compassion and combine these with a thorough examination of your strengths, character and personality traits, including your capacity for change and resiliency. And the results, could surprise you. Many people experience a new sense of wonder and excitement, others take on long-delayed projects, and others find love at long last.

Creativity Coaching

I've spent a lifetime as an advertising creative director, photographer and entrepreneur and have proudly mentored many people to great success. At the same time, I have seen firsthand how creativity can be thwarted, especially when your inner critic gets going. Even the most talented person questions that talent from time to time, and that, right there, is what gets in the way. Talent is completely subjective and valuable in its own right. But getting started writing that book, painting that picture, knitting that sweater, cooking that meal, can be tricky. Together, we can get past the stumbling blocks and develop a process that is unique to you and your timetable (not everyone can take off a year and move to a cabin in the woods). You may not see results right away, but you will see results. And that feeling of finally doing it is pretty great.

Achievement Coaching

If you find yourself struggling to stay ahead academically or professionally, or if this applies to your child, coaching could provide the structure, focus and accountability to help you reach your goals. As your coach, I will work with you to design a program that is both aspirational and attainable. You will be challenged to complete tasks, stay on target and move toward the goals you define. Think homework is just for kids? Not necessarily. As part of achievement coaching you may be tasked with reading articles, writing storyboards, watching videos - whatever it takes to keep you motivated and inspired.

Family Coaching

Many families try therapy as a first line of defense when communications or behavioral problems arise. And that makes sense. It is important to know what is at the heart of interpersonal problems. But for same families, coaching is a useful adjunct to traditional therapy. As your coach, I will work with you to develop targeted strategies that keep you moving toward your goals. Think of me as your "family personal trainer," working on goals you set and encouraging your family members to exercise every emotional muscle.
